This exhibit of 30 items, meticulously replicated by Larry and Doris Belitz of Sioux Replications, features artifacts collected during the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery from 1804-1806.
Lewis and Clark-Gifts of the Mandan presents a unique opportunity to experience skilled Native American craft work and to preserve the memory and knowledge of indigenous cultures.
The Belitzes utilize historic methods, such as brain tanning leather, and materials that include sinew for thread and naturally colored flattened porcupine quills dyed with plant materials. Twenty years of studying original artifacts and artistic renderings, along with reviewing expedition journals and acquiring techniques from Native American teachers have led them to create this beautiful and informative exhibit.

Lewis and Clark-Gifts of the Mandan will travel to museums throughout the bi-centennial. It includes historical information, a teacher's guide, and a hands-on "touch and feel" board. To inquire about booking the exhibit, contact
